March 4th banquet speaker announced – Jerry Barclay, I’71

Jerry Barclay, I’71 spent his career in the real estate development and construction industry.  Throughout his 40+ year career he worked for real estate development, project management consulting and general contracting companies.

Leveraging his degree in architecture from Cal Berkeley, his projects included a wide range of building types and property uses:  preservation/restoration/adaptive reuse, seismic reinforcing, new ground up commercial construction, tenant improvements, and institutional facilities including Stanford University's Athletic Headquarters.  He retired in 2018 from Intuit, Inc. after six years overseeing real estate development, design, and construction for a global portfolio of properties in London, Bangalore, Sydney, Singapore and others.  He led the development and expansion of its HQ campus in Silicon Valley, earning a LEED Platinum designation for the company’s showcase HQ building.

Jerry has been a dedicated Sigs since his days as an undergraduate active.  He lived in the Thorsen House for four years, serving as both House Manager and chapter President.  As a young alumnus he helped plan, organize, and then led a major restoration project of the Sig House in 1978.  He served three terms on the alumni board of directors, including one term as president.  He continues to serve the alumni board in an independent advisor to support various board initiatives.

Jerry loves to cook and enjoys fine wine.  He’s still in love with the woman he met as an undergraduate in 1973.

Jerry will share thoughts with banquet attendees about how living in the national landmark Thorsen House as a young Sig influenced his undergraduate experience as both a Sig and architecture student.  He’ll reflect on how that experience has influenced his ongoing support of the chapter and his career dealing with real estate related projects.
